Logo Design / Concept

The logo for Arctic Sounds were made at the Music Festivals inception in 2014. The words used to describe the festival was Rough. Real. Remote. I wanted to make sure the logo worked well as a single icon, and as this festival was located in Greenland - the shape of snow under a microscope was the inspiration for this shape. I also wanted a bit of modern depth dimension to the logo, so I made a rotated and slightly darker shade behind the original shape that almost serves as 3D effect. I also intended to incorporate a bit of a compass feel, that resonates with the festival is close to the arctic circle and the north pole + features artists from all corners of the world.

Typefaces
and Colors
.

The use of typography is important for anyone doing posters. I knew I wanted to find a font that had a bit of punk to it. And punchy over-the-top colours. I was thinking about every rock and roll magazine I ever saw, but also of covers of magazines like Wallpaper and Dazed. AG Buch Stencil is a font with tons of personality. And a rough and impactful expression. The body fonts are pretty regular.

Intro Video for Website.

This video was cut and graded by me for the Arctic Sounds website. It’s a mix of documentary footage and stock footage.

Posters.

These are the festival posters from the last 3 years of Arctic Sounds festival. My idea was for these posters to be loud. Bright and colourful – not looking cheap, but rather edgy and exciting. I took the original photos of the magnificent nature of Greenland and twisted the colours into a more surreal territory. A way no one had ever seen Greenland before. It was my take on bringing this festival the youthful energy it deserves, and make these designs memorable.

If you think the logo looks a bit dull here, but that’s because the posters are CMYK colors for offset printing.

Website Design.

The objective for Arctic Sounds' new website was to create an impactful and comprehensive representation of the festival's offerings, including concerts, writing camps, community engagement, networking, and more. The website features an introductory video at the top (see above), aimed at capturing the festival's spirit. Each performing artist was given a dedicated webpage with their bio and music to strengthen their profiles. The site was designed for easy management by the festival without requiring my services each year, and I created an explainer video to guide the staff in utilizing the backend effectively.

Wear/Merch.

Every festival needs merchandise. We did plenty. Custom ear plugs, guitar picks, stickers, stage banners. Too much to show. But here are a few designs for the clothing items.

Broadcast Stream Design.

During Covid-19 the festival turned to live streaming. For the design we chose a simple overlay and some layers that could change color and slide in and out.
